Who Do You Think You Are?

So, I don't watch tons of tv but I do have a few shows that I enjoy watching...among them Bones, SYTYCD, Biggest Loser and those cake shows on Food Network but I have recently discovered a new favorite and I really hope that it has good ratings and continues. It is on NBC and is called "Who Do You Think You Are?" And I love it, who would have ever thought there would be a weekly show about geneology and that it was actually interesting?

I'll stand by you...

Our little man loves to stand-it never fails to bring a smile to his face. If you hold his hands whiel he is standing he will take off running-it is so cute, for now anyway! And I swear the child has no fear, he will let go and just fall towards you!

Mother's Day-Officially

So this was my first official Mother's Day! I was getting ready to feed Peter and I went to go get his bib and when I came back he had a present for me. Is that not the cutest face ever! Luckily I was not gone long or else the envelope would have been slobbered and shredded! Alan made dinner for me which was yummy, and it was so nice to relax for the evening and not have to worry about making dinner! My favorite was desert, I know-not a real shocker there! Alan made chocolate lava cakes and they were fantastic! And rich! I could barely finish one.

Land of the Buckeyes

Alan's sister and her family recently moved from Alaska to Iowa and it happened to correlate with Alan's week between semesters so we made the trek to central Iowa. Mapquest said it would take us 6 hours and 6 minutes, it would be nice if they had a button to click to calculate the difference when you have a baby in the car...But we finally arrived and Peter was more than happy to be out of his car seat.
One of the days we went to a state park and enjoyed the trees and stream. It was a lot of fun. Peter loves spending time with his Grandpa Jensen, they are good buddies. Everyone was either throwing or trying to skip rocks in this little stream and Peter of course wanted to jump in, so I took his socks off and let him dip his toes in. He didn't quite know what to make of the sand and cold water. But after a few minutes he was ready to take off downstream!

Another day we went to a little Dutch town nearby that was having a Tulip Festival. I have never seen such tall tulips before. They were beautiful.

And of course Peter needed to destroy at least one...

It was nice to spend some time together with Alan, Peter especially indulged in some daddy bonding time.

Peter has been working on feeding himself, as you can see he still needs a little work!

On the way home we decided to break up the drive and stop in Carthage. I haven't been there since I was a kid and boy has the place been updated. The grounds are beautiful. One thing was still the same though and that is the Spirit that resides there. Even as a child I remember feeling it.

Ouch!

SO...I guess I spoke too soon-Peter has learned to use his teeth and last night when we were chatting with some friends after dinner and Peter was getting his evening snack he decided to use them...on me!

OUCH is all I have to say!

Let the Teething Begin!

During Alan's break between semesters we went to Iowa to visit his sister (I will get that post up soon), and all in all Peter did great with the long road trip. I did not realize how wonderful he did until the day after we got home. Because out of nowhere one of his bottom teeth started popping up and by the next day his little neighboring tooth appeared as well! As expected he now constantly has something in his mouth to chew on and there is a never ending stream of drool but we are so excited for his new little additions. Thankfully for me, he still hasn't learned how to use his teeth yet! :)

Crusin'

Because Peter did not like laying on his stomach very much, once he could sit up we started putting him in his walker so he could be in the kitchen with me when I was either cleaning or cooking. His progress from just sitting to cruising has been cute.

He first started out by stomping his feet so hard that he actually propelled himself forward. You would think that it would hurt on our wood floors but he did not seem to mind.

He next learned to lean back and work on his reverse driving skills still stomping to go forwards.

And now he flys around the house like a crash test racecar driver! Not much gets in his way except for the rugs, which is nice! But the look on his face when he sees something that he wants and can actually go get it is priceless! He is loving his freedom and even though my feet have bruises from him coming to say hello I love that he can explore and entertain himself. Now if I can only keep him out of the trash can....

Splish, Splash

So before we were married Alan made me agree to a non-nudity Clause for taking pictures of our children. After much discussion I agreed, thinking that his argument that it would emotionally scar our children was crazy-I have plenty of nudy pictures of me when I was a baby and there is no permanent damage to my social or emotional development! Anyway, I also agreed with the thought that I might be able to persuade him otherwise once we actually had a little one.

Well, we have one now and one of his favorite times of the day is his bath. He is hilarious while bathing. He loves to splash from the moment he hits the water, oblivious to the fact that is is soaking whoever is bathing him and that most of the splashed water hits him square in the face or that the water he is sucking out of his bath rag is dirty-he loves it! I of course wanted to capture this on video for every one's viewing pleasure and after much persuasion convinced Alan that I could do so and keep the family jewels hidden. Enjoy!
